Women’s Travel Wear
Women’s Travel Wear
It sounds awful, but the fabric is not shiny and looks like cotton knit when worn. These dresses have no zippers and slip over your head like a tee shirt. Anything made from this fabric can be mooshed, pushed, folded, machine washed, or washed in a sink and dried in a cruise ship shower, and is perfect travel clothing. (Please give us more stretchy tea-length dresses.)
Americans will find women wearing dresses and skirts all over Europe. Some good things on travelsmith.com right now:
•Women’s Tank Travel Dress: I have all the colors, but now they only sell black. Everyone, go online and ask them to make this dress in 20 colors. You will live in them for years.
•Women’s Voyager Knit Travel Dress: Perfect. Ask for more solid colors and nicer prints.
•Cheap three-piece travel outfits.
•Buy your scarves in France or at Forzieri.com
Women’s Travel Wear Tops
I can’t tell you one best place for travel tops, but I will tell you what I like, and I only like tops that stretch and don’t wrinkle.
What else would you pack, unless you are bringing your butler with you? I also avoid T-shirts with pictures of kitties and any type of writing on them. Not only will those not pass the Paris Test, but there is no way to dress up those T-shirts.
OldNavy.com: One of your best resources for travel tees is OldNavy.com. Their cotton shirts and blouses don’t always fit my body, but if you go to “Tees”, then look for “Basics”, you will find some good, reliable, and inexpensive staples. I prefer their Scoop-Neck Tees and V-Neck Tees. And, though I’ve never tried the “lightweight” version, I’m sure those would be good for layering. Their other tops are hit or miss, but if they fit you, you’ve scored a big-time bargain.

Casual Living USA: If you like to take inexpensive tops on your trips, like I do, try Casual Living for their twist-front tops.
I also see a boho “Flowing Sheer Print Tunic” that might be good for my new bohemian look that I’m adopting for 2011. Boohoo, the tunic won’t fit, but the twist tops go up to size 3X.
Soft Surroundings: I usually have better luck here (for tops) than at Coldwater Creek (though I like CC’s dresses). All soft and stretchy tops at Soft Surroundings are well made and comfy. However, I would like to tell buyers and designers, everywhere, that I don’t like split necks (jewelry?) or bra tops (they seldom fit). Boomers should, of course, try Zappos.com and Amazon. These two Seattle powerhouses usually have something. Today, I only see kitties.
Packable Travel Clothing: Best Raincoat
One of the best, lightweight raincoats is the reversible Mycra Pac. This coat scrunches into its own pouch / purse, or your carry-on bag, and it shows no dirt. Also, the reversibility makes it extremely practical. My favorite is the Donnatella Short, which I have in leopard/brown, lilac/black flocked, and lilac/black.
Wrinkle Free Pants for Long Flights
The best travel pants for Boomers, and non-skinny gals, are at QVC.com. The Citiknits pants are always wrinkle free, and with the wide waistband, they can take a woman all the way to Sydney. In the right size, these pants feel like pajamas. The fabric is not bad in black, and navy may be worth a try, but the taupe is shiny and shows every bulge.
Feminine Travel Hats
The best travel hats have a chinstrap or they will blow off during a day at sea or in a rainstorm, though if you have thick hair, you might manage with only a tie in the hatband. Hats (of all kinds) are great for women without wash and wear hair. Some of the best sun hats are:
•Fabric hats at SunPrecautions.com (I’m wearing their pink fabric hat. Bad photo, but reminds me of Aix-En-Provence.)
•REI Packable Sun Hat
For a great rain hat try the Seattle Sombrero (at REI.com – I have red) which can be left flat or worn like an Aussie hat. This hat is very spunky when worn with one side up, and is much cuter than it looks.
Travel Shoes at Zappos.com
You, absolutely, must have good travel shoes, and you must break them in before your trip. Comfortable shoes are a must for any vacation where walking is required. And, European travel is one obvious example where shoes can make or break your trip. Zappos.com is the website with the best assortment of travel shoes, even narrow and wide shoes, and the quickest delivery. (It’s sometimes overnight.)
For hot climates, one of the best, but most expensive brands of shoes is Mephisto. However, a pair of these shoes will take you to every continent and last forever. Mephisto Ulla is unbeatable for women with wide feet. (Wear with black tights during cooler days.) A cheaper version might be Clark’s un.galley. Ecco is another good brand. Type “women’s walking” into the Zappos search and read the reviews for good info.
Another item which is good, at Zappos, is a travel purse. Type “travel bags” into the search and look for a crossbody bag, like the Pacsafe Slingsafe. That style looks perfect for the Paris Metro.
The Best Sites for Women’s Travel Wear
Hopefully, this info about best sites for women’s travel wear will help Baby Boomers, chicks over 40 & 50, stay comfy on their trips. Compare prices for women’s travel dresses, or whatever, at other sites and look for stretchy wrinkle free fabrics. Leave all clothes with tight waistbands at home. And, have a good trip.
